Jason: The new Nikon D50 & D70s

Eric: Man, I need to get out more with my Nikon D70. Going to Kemah was great. So much happening there that I don’t really stand out trying to take pictures. Great place to practice. When you do get a camera, make sure you get a huge CF card. I got the 1 gig which gives me 291 pics @ 3000×2000 pixel resolution. I shot 200+ photos there in an hour.

Jason: Damn, that’s a lot of pics, but it makes sense. Shoot now, edit later. BTW, what kind of batteries does the D70 use and what is the lifetime of them?

Eric: It has it’s own NiMH… a really long time!

Jason: LOL!

Eric: Seriously! One reviewer (BareFeats, I think) said she used it for 3 weeks and the bar didn’t drain. I used it for 2 and left it on accidentally a few times and it finally got real low. I’m not used to that.

Jason: That’s incredible. Man, I need that camera.

Eric: My Canon PowerShot S20 was ready for a recharge after about 50 pics.

Jason: Exactly! My Canon lasts about 100 pics with the flash and 200-300 w/out.

Eric: Everything that annoyed me about the Canon , or any other camera, the D70 does not have.

Jason: Nice. BTW, Cassie gave me the “go” for purchase with the warning “if you can afford it.” Trouble is, right now I can’t afford it.

Eric: Oh man, Elizabeth always puts that stipulation on me. Canon either screwed up on my battery or the camera or a combo. I paid a lot of money ($50) for their rechargable battery. It nearly doesn’t last past 20 pics practically. I bought a no-brand replacement for $12 and it lasts a lot longer, but not long enough.

Jason: We’re using regular batts in ours, but I just “conditioned” a set of no-brand rechargables that we are going to start using.

Eric: The D70 handles everything wonderfully. Instant on, long battery life (which everyone always wants to see the pic after take it, so this is a plus), easy on-the-fly config without having to use the menus, true contiuous shots…

Jason: Nice. Yeah, I’ve been lusting after the speed of the D70 in continuous shot mode.

Eric: My canon has a proprietary battery (like the D70). All the new canons use AA. Wish mine did. It was the best when I bought it, but they quickly replaced it (the camera).

Jason: Gotcha. Yeah, ours (PowerShot A95) uses AAs.

Eric: Yeah, my cousin bought that one. I was showing her how to use it. A great point-n-shoot. I would have liked to sell mine and replace it with that one. Now, I don’t care.

Jason: hehehe. Jason: Yeah, it is a great camera for us. I love how tiny it is. We carry it with us pretty much every where we go. Super easy to use.

Eric: Yeah, that’s the one big drawback to the D70. It won’t fit in your pocket.

Jason: :-)

Eric: But, that’s the tradeoff, of course.

Jason: Not that bad of a tradeoff considering what you get.

Eric: Yep. I don’t mind. Gonna go to Sean’s tomorrow for beers… gonna take it on the roof top and see if I can get some downtown night shots.

Jason: Kickass. Can’t wait to see those (if you’re able to get them).

Eric: Hope the weather is good. It sucks, I want to be good enough to know how to take those type shots. Guess that’s why they call it practice.

Jason: Exactly. Later, you’ll know to jump at the chance… or, you’ll be able to use the weather to pick when/where to take your shots.

Eric: Indoor, nighttime & shadows. That’s the hard stuff for me. I think indoor will take care of itself once I get the SB-800 AF Speedlight.

Jason: Agreed.
