Discussions: Nikon’s Face Recognition
Posted by Eric under Eric's Blog , Photography , IM DiscussionsJason: new Nikon D-series SLR cameras
Eric [having just purchased a Nikon D70]: I knew it!!!! Damn!!!!
Jason: hehehe.
Eric: I knew they’d come out with something new when I got mine. I don’t want the new product… just a lower price on mine… which is probably why there was a rebate [on mine].
Jason: I wouldn’t worry too much. Nature of the game.
Eric: I’m not mad. I love the camera. It put the fun back into taking pictures. Did I tell you about the new face recognition the Nikon cameras will be doing?
Jason: No, what is that about face recognition?
Eric: Hat tip goes to Houser for this info he posted:
Looks like Nikon has been working overtime on technology lately. In their monthly newsletter, I read this:cameras that automatically find faces…
Nikon’s Face-Priority AF (Autofocus) automatically detects the face in a portrait and focuses on it. Get that great portrait, automatically.cameras that automatically fix red-eye during the picture taking process…
Nikon’s In-Camera Red-Eye Fix(TM) automatically fixes most typical instances of red-eye in the camera. You may never see red-eyes again.cameras that fix backlit pictures…
Nikon’s D-Lighting automatically lightens overly dark images in playback. See what you’ve been missing. The Face-Priority AF even knows if there is more than one face in the shot. Pretty sick, right? Well imagine it’s on a camera that’s less than $400 AND it also has instant on like the D70! The soon to be released Nikon Coolpix S1 has all this stuff and looks pretty slick, for a little digicam. I don’t think I’d be using one as a daily rig, but I bet my wife would like one.
Jason: Wow. I wonder what models that [new feature] will come on.
Eric: Don’t know, but combined with your news, I figured it would be those.
Jason: good point
Eric: Oh my new Firefox find for the day is the ’save page as’. It will save the page you’re looking at as an html file along with a folder containing all the rest of the files (images, js, css, txt) that appears on that page.
Jason: nice
